Faithful McAllen residents will come together and unite in prayer on April 25 – and have the opportunity to hear testimony from internationally known Christian entertainer David A.R. White.
White, producer of the God’s Not Dead series, is headlining the 46th annual McAllen Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the McAllen Convention Center.
The event is sponsored by the McAllen Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon Committee, a non-profit organization whose purpose is “to promote a greater understanding in our community and to ask for God’s divine guidance in conducting the affairs of our city.”
The McAllen Mayor’s Prayer event has a long history. It was founded as a prayer breakfast in 1973 by Mayor Jack Whetsel as a way to connect city organizations and the faith community. The event has grown to feature leading Christian voices who provide timely prayer and testimony to issues that face our modern culture.
White, this year’s keynote speaker, has starred in more than 25 movies and produced 40 films, including the film series God’s Not Dead, which set the record as the most successful independent faith-based movies of all time. He has also starred in Mercy Streets, Six-The Mark Unleashed, Brother White, Me Again, and the Revelation Road series.
White is currently producing a sitcom, Hitting the Breaks, which features celebrity guests such as Rob Schneider, Tim Tebow and Morgan Fairchild. He also produces video shorts for web series such as “Life in the White House” and “On the White Track” and in 2016, published his memoir, “Between Heaven and Hollywood: Chasing Your God-Given Dream.”
“Our board is excited to bring this exceptional speaker to our community,” said McAllen Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon Committee Board President Elizabeth C. Martinez. “Mr. White’s films are powerful and I believe his message of encouragement and perseverance will inspire our community.”
Tickets are $20 (meal included) and may be purchased at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, McAllen City Hall – Grant Administration Office, and Viva Life Christian Bookstore. Sponsorships for the event are available in denominations from $150 to $1,000. To learn more about sponsoring this event, please contact Board Treasurer Richard Moore at 956.630.3053.
