Meeting Tejano star Veronique Medrano is similar to shaking hands with a hummingbird. The Brownsville native’s ideas and conversation flit from talking about her Facebook live feeds, her fashion line, podcasts, travels to the West Coast, the inspirations that produced her two albums and the importance of her family’s support in all of her endeavors.
Of her venture into Tejano music, she states that the music in her blood. Growing up with the influences of Selena and Los Tigres Del Norte, Medrano states that she was fortunate to grow up in a family that allowed her to dream big dreams and explore different genres on her journey. Before creating her two albums, Medrano trained both in opera and jazz. She experienced so much success in these two genres that she gained enough fans who contributed to her album via crowd-funding.
At the moment, Medrano is focusing on promoting her second album entitled “My Año de Oro” (My Gold Year). Medrano also states she is also recovering from the passion and emotion she placed in creation of her album, which she feels is a quintessential picture of her life in a particular year. Because of this she made sure she included songs packed with meaning and relevance to her life. Two songs in the album are the ones she is most proud of, those include “La Pulga,” which describes a story of a seven-year old Veronique’s day at La Pulga and the positive feelings of community found in the foods and atmosphere of the market.
second song,“Sobreviviré” (I Will Survive), tells the story of a young lady in an adult relationship in which she loses control over and nearly loses herself as a result. Veronique is working hard at creating her own niche in the world. And she wholeheartedly believes in the importance and power of social media in the Tejano market.
