Art Studio by Design looks for kids who love the art of painting, drawing and working with their hands and mind.
Starting Saturday, March 11, The Art Studio by Design is offering art classes in all mediums for children from 6 to 16 years to benefit the youth in the community. Karen Norberg, owner of the studio, is pleased to offer this new initiative.
“If you have a child who shows talent in the arts please sign them up for these very close instructional classes,” she said. “Classes are held one on one to guide and encourage our young artists. Parents are also welcomed to attend. We have open classroom for our families.”
Art Studio looks for kids who love the art of painting, drawing and working with their hands and mind. For them it is important for the children to express themselves on any surface. According to Norberg, the studio is inviting the children to come once a week and learn techniques of drawing, painting and hand-eye coordination with clay.
“If you have a birthday, anniversary, wedding or any event you would like to celebrate, we would love to show you our large room off the back of our studio,” she said. “We can teach art with a seating capacity of up to 140 students.”
For Norberg, giving back to the community is what keeps her team teaching. Their instructors work with the disabled, special needs children, cancer kids, and sick kids of all ages. “We go to them or they come to us. We have the time and the patience to meet their needs. We teach them all we know with patience and encouragement. They pick the date and the time for the class so they can work around feeding and nap times.”
This teach-in call is free to the schools once a year. The schools pick a date and time they want them to teach and the rest is left up to the group of artists. In the past, they have asked college students to help them with these groups. For example, they have the kids do a small painting in watercolor, frame and have them in and out of the cafeteria in 30 to 40 minutes per classroom. “We have taught this class over the years and we are always surprised at how helpful it is for the young ones and for people of all ages.”
The Art Studio by Design moved at the end of 2016. They are now located at the corner of 10th Street North and Jonquil. They offer classes throughout the week, as well as on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, visit the Art Studio by Design Facebook site.
